Metabolomix Test (Advanced Nutrition Status)

I’ve been using the Metabolomix test (formally ‘ONE’ test) for over 10 years. It always comes up with some interesting insights around areas of insufficiency that may have been missed during blood testing. This enables us to specifically target these areas with a nutrition protocol to help optimise the function of the body.

It is essentially an in depth nutritional analysis, giving us valuable information on the intake of nutrients and proteins and the body’s ability to utilise those nutrients. Where blood testing of nutrients can tell you if there is an actual deficiency, looking at organic acids tells us whether the body has enough of this particular nutrient to fulfil all of the demands of the cell.

For example, a patient may have sufficient B12 in blood but is not activating that vitamin B12 efficiently, so it is not able to carry out all of the functions.

Nutrient Need Overview Chart

As well as looking for nutrient needs, it also gives an insight into gut dysbiosis and candida overgrowth; there are markers around exposure to some common toxins and also markers around neurotransmitter production such as adrenaline and dopamine, energy production via the Krebs cycle, and methylation.

It also measures amino acids which tells us ‘does this person have adequate dietary protein; are they digesting and absorbing the protein they are taking in.’ Interestingly it also measures some dipeptides in the urine which tell us if that patient is fully digesting their proteins. (maybe due to lack of chewing or stomach acid changes)

The NutrEval test is an extended version of the Metabolomix. The NutrEval includes the Metabolomix and on top of that, there is a blood sample to look at some additional markers: NutrEval Description

What does the Metabolomix+ test measure?

A simple urine sample provides information across several important areas of nutritional and metabolic health, including:

  • Nutrient status – identifies functional requirements for a range of vitamins and minerals, including several B vitamins and nutrients involved in energy production and nervous-system function.
  • Energy production – assesses organic acid markers that can provide insight into pathways involved in cellular and mitochondrial energy metabolism.
  • Amino acid metabolism – provides information about how the body is processing amino acids and utilising protein.
  • Oxidative stress & antioxidant protection – examines markers associated with oxidative balance and the body’s antioxidant defence systems.
  • Detoxification pathways – provides information about biochemical pathways involved in the processing and elimination of certain compounds.
  • Methylation-related nutrients – assesses markers that can help identify nutritional requirements for methylation and related metabolic processes.

Looking at these markers together can help build a more detailed picture of an individual’s nutritional and metabolic needs than looking at isolated nutrients alone.

Who might benefit from Metabolomix+?

This assessment may be particularly helpful if you:

  • Regularly experience fatigue or low energy
  • Find that you don’t recover well from exercise or periods of stress
  • Want to investigate possible nutritional insufficiencies despite eating a healthy diet
  • Have concerns around energy production, oxidative stress or metabolic health
  • Are experiencing ongoing symptoms where standard investigations haven’t provided the full picture
  • Want to take a more personalised, evidence-informed approach to nutrition
  • Are interested in understanding your nutritional requirements as part of a broader health optimisation programme

Why use nutritional testing?

Symptoms such as tiredness, poor concentration, low resilience or reduced recovery can have many possible causes. Nutrition is one piece of this picture, but knowing where to focus can be difficult based on symptoms alone.

Metabolomix+ can provide additional biochemical information to help guide nutritional recommendations, allowing your diet and supplementation programme to be tailored more specifically to your individual results.

Rather than taking a blanket approach to supplementation, we can use the findings to identify areas that may warrant further investigation or nutritional support.

From test results to personalised nutrition

The real value of testing is not simply the report itself — it is understanding what your individual results mean and how they fit together.

I can help you interpret your Metabolomix+ results alongside your symptoms, diet, lifestyle and existing health information, and use the findings to develop a personalised nutrition strategy designed around your specific needs.

Your results become the starting point for a more targeted approach — less guesswork, more individualisation.
